Union Station Wedding | Ashley & Matson

Ashley and Matson began their day at the Phoenix Park Hotel which overlooks Union Station. After hair and makeup and putting her gown on, we walked over to Union Station for a first look and portraits of the bride and groom as well as Wedding Party photos. Then we all hopped into transportation to to their ceremony at the historic St. Johns Church. The day was completed with an elegant reception held in the East Hall of Union Station.

If you are considering getting married at the ever famous St. John’s where our current and past presidents go for worship, you should know they have very strict photography rules. Very minimal photos were even allowed at the church on their wedding day. That being said, it is pretty phenomenal to be able to say you got married at such a historic site. The church is located just across H Street from the White House.

Union Station is one of my favorite venues. I am obsessed with the grand lobby’s embellished and arched ceiling. This ornate gold and cream detail extends throughout the whole Metro Station interior. The lower level has a Metro platform while the upper levels have a full indoor shopping center complete with eateries. There is usually some type of street entertainment outside where you will see even more of the elaborate architecture extended into the outdoor arches that wrap around the front and sides of the building. In my opinion, Union Station might be the most “DC” place to get married. If you haven’t been to Union Station and you are planning a trip to our city, I highly recommend it.

Worth noting was this random tourist who was passing through DC and happened upon us photographing the wedding party. She asked if she could take a photo of the bride and groom holding her lucky stuffed animal that she brings with her on all of her travels. The photo above the wedding party photos is a photo of the couple taking a photo with the tourist’s lucky charm. It was hilarious.

Ashley and Matson’s wedding was filled with laughter and love. Enjoy a few of favorite pictures from their wedding.
